What is Megasquirt?

What is megasquirt you might ask, well, very simply put its a do it yourself EFI project encompassing many different fuel injection computers.

from plug and play, to plug and pray, to build to suit, to built specifically for something, and everything you can think of in between, it can be awesome and terrible all at the same time.

since as my friend Mike T says it "it was built for everything and nothing all at the same time" hahah

Very simply put, there are currently 3 Generations of the CPU meaning the earliest working version built for commercial use... that i am aware of, is the MS1 (megasqurt 1) and on top of this there are many other motherboard variations that the CPU attaches too, that is where you get MS1 v2.2 through 3.57

Here is a photo of a Megasquirt 1 v2.2 that i assembled myself for one of our project cars, i believe this was for my first brown Fairmont that used the MS1 for fuel only control, and the MSD6010 box to run the factory ignition system stand alone from each other. on the upper left is the com port, where the computer connects to the ECU, and on the right side is a Simulator board that they sell in a kit, you build this yourself also and you can TEST your ms1 board and flash it with firmware etc and make sure it all works prior to wiring it into the car.

on top of this there is the MS2 chip and now MS3 chip already out, and variants of course of both, here is a picture of a few together that i took to show the differences.

left there is the same MS1 v2.2 in the black aluminum case with the cover on

lower middle is a Microsquirt ( a condensed version of the MS2 chip and motherboard in a sealed case with a small but efficient connector, this is also what we use to run LS motors fuel and ignition they really work amazing for what they are. also shown to the right is just how small a microsquirt ECU is in relation to a spark plug

upper right is the EFI source gold box, this is a all out MS3 personalized build by Mike @ EFI source purpose built for the gen3 hemi, v10 and LS based engines, also comes with a plug and play harness to run the engine.

Now basically you can buy the parts in a kit and assemble them yourself, or buy the computer already built and tested and flashed to suit,

after that you wire it or mod it, accordingly to run what you are going to do with it, be it a LS engine, a distributor on a mopar engine, or a snowmobile etc.

quick overview video i did of a MS1

using a laptop to connect to a Megasquirt computer

and a quick video i did on how to flash a Microsquirt with 3.2.4 firmware and load in a LSX based tune and test
