Alice Hope

1846-1852

Alice Hope (1846-1852)

Alice Hope was born in 1846 in Peebles Shire, Scotland and was the seventh child and fourth daughter of Thomas and Alice Hope.

According to Scottish Naming Traditions, there is no format to naming the fourth-born daughter after a particular relative. However, Thomas and Alice deveated from this pattern with their third-born daughter (Jessie) and so when Alice was born she took that naming pattern and was thus named after her mother, Alice Hope (nee Armstrong).

The 1851 Census Return, recorded Alice as 5 year old daughter (not yet a scholar) and living with her family at 83 Castle Street (AKA Castlegate), Jedburgh.

At the age of 5, Alice contracted measles and died on 4 July 1852 at Jedburgh, Roxburgh, Scotland.
