Thomas Hope was born 3 February 1882 at "Fernside" Apsley and died on 16 January 1929 at Melbourne. On 12 June 1916 at Hamilton, Victoria, he married Mary Ann McDonald of Strathdownie, daughter of Allan McDonald and Rose Gilmore.

Thomas enlisted at Hamilton, Victoria on 19 January 1916 and served as a private with the 8th Battalion in France, being discharged on 30 April 1919 (Registration number 6277). When Tommy came back after W.W.I he carted sand for a living, getting up at 4.00am to begin work.

Thomas died on 16 January 1929 in Melbourne, Victoria.
