Ailcie (Elsie) Elizabeth Hope was born 13 August 1884 at Wytwarrone, Victoria, the second child and first daughter of William Bryce Hope and Eliza Ann Robertson.

There is some confusion as to her first name - was it Alice, Alcie, Ailcie or some other variation? No matter the spelling, she was always known as Elsie, so that's what we'll call her in this book.

After her mother's death in 1892, Elsie lived for a while with the parents of Mary McLean (of Casterton), until she chose a job with a childless couple. Unfortunately, that didn't work out as expected and Elsie then stayed with her father but later returned to Mrs McLean's parents until she married Thomas Joseph Denton of Harrow, son of Thomas Peel Denton and his wife Annie, in Horsham on 5 February 1915.

Elsie died 30 March 1962, aged 77 and her husband Thomas, died 2 August 1957, aged 72 years.

Regretably, I have no further information about the life and times of Elsie and Thomas Denton.
