William Smith [dob:1872]

William [born: 4 February 1872 at Kadnook Station, Harrow, Victoria] was educated at Melbourne Grammar School, studied law at Melbourne University and admitted to the Victorian Bar in 1898. Practised for several years in Melbourne, spent time as a member of W. D. & O. McCutcheon's staff in Melbourne and Sir Joshua Symond's staff in Adelaide until 1927 when he retired to farming with his sons in Gippsland, Victoria. Was a keen cricketer having played for Melbourne Grammar School and Essendon in first grade competition. He married Mary Louisa Dossiter, daughter of D. R. Dossiter of Hobart, Tasmania, first Governor Inspector of Hobart Town and great grand-daughter of William Rumney, who emigrated to Australia with family stock and servants in 1828, after whom Mt Rumsey was named, on 22 November 1900 and had issue. Mary died on 14 October 1962.[1]

Neil Richmond Smith

was educated at Miss Whitton's, North Essendon, Pulteney Grammar School and St Peters College, Adelaide and entered the merchant marine service as wireless operator. Instructed RAAF trainees during the 1939-45 war and then joined Dept Civil Aviation as a Radio Controller before retiring to a grazing property at Kojonup in Western Australia.

Keith Robert Richmond Smith

was educated at Miss Whitton's, North Essendon, Pulteney Grammar School and St Peters College and Roseworthy Agricultural College, near Adelaide. Was wheat farming in Mallee before settling on farms in Gippsland, Victoria., with brothers Neil and William.

Dorothy Jean Smith

born 3 December 1905 and died 5 November 1907.

John Maxwell Smith

was educated at Pulteney Grammar School and St Peters College, Adelaide. Gained farming experience with Uncle at Hynam Station, South Australia. Was wheat farming in Mallee and later Government Herd Tester, Fish Creek, Gippsland, Victoria., before taking up a grazing property at Glenthompson, Victoria. Served with AIF in Kokoda Trail, New Guinea during 1939-45 war.

Joan Mary Richmond Smith

was educated in Adelaide before travelling to India to spend several years as tutor to her Uncles children. Entered nursing profession before Marriage to Rupert Helms in Melbourne 7 June 1941. During the 1939-45 war performed volunteer work for service personnel for various organisations in Melbourne, while husband was absent most of his five and a half years in Army and RAAF. Lived in Yallourn for 7 years after the war and then moved to Balwyn, Melbourne, where now living in retirement with Husband who spent over 30 years with SEC of Victoria.

William (Wally) Aldridge Smith

was educated in Adelaide at Augustine's School and Unley High School. Went herd testing and joined his brothers, Neil and Keith farming at Buffalo, Gippsland, Victoria. Later settled on a farm at Yarragon, Victoria where William is now retired.
