DNA = Discoveries

Scotland is the country of heritage for our Hope families

Ongoing and persistent research, which includes me having my DNA tested late in 2019 (and also in early 2020, two of my brothers had their's done) and collectively this is revealing more of our Hope cousins which we can confirm because distant cousins have also had their DNAs done over the last couple of years and so with the help of this technology, we are putting distant cousins in touch with one another - many generations on from the siblings of our ancestors. How exciting is this???

The Hope family are being found in both the Old World and not surprisingly, in many countries of the New World; as well as still in our country of heritage, Scotland. Of those families who emigated, they have lived in their adopted country for a number of generations.

I'm trying to piece together what we've discovered thus far, some of which has been confirmed through various DNA tests within the family - DNA testing and associated research is both current and will be ongoing. However, it MUST be stated up front that the more I delve into the genealogy of our family, the more complex it becomes as often there are parallel families either not related to one another or distantly related and in some cases children are being assigned to their aunts and uncles instead of to their parents - a hazard for anyone researching their family's history and something of which we need to be aware. Apologies in advance if you discover I've done exactly that and I certainly would appreciate you letting me know, if you discover it before I have a chance to do so!

However, in short, what we have thus far might be:

I invite you to visit my Family Tree on ancestry.com.au for a more comprehensive account of the wider Hope family and for some of the families into which they married. The User Name is: stemmata42

I (Maggie) have been using up my screen time "allowance" in tracking down descendants of David's family (1777-1856) and thus far (January 2020) I am in touch with descendants of 5 of his children (and therefore, if we include my own line, I can account for descendants for 6 of the 12 children). I can see the family tree for another 4 children but thus far have not made personal contact with anyone from them (but not for the lack of trying); and the last 2 of his children did not marry = 12 children somehow accounted for!

The following pages will concentrate on David's 12 children until such time as we can confirm the siblings of his parents, and then confirm his grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews - but don't hold your breath on this - it might be nigh impossible!!!
