Clans today are for those connected by blood lines to a known leader; and also those who share a common last name, without necessarily proving blood relationships with others in the Clan.

Membership to many Clans is usually open to ALL from a particular surname or last name, its variations, relations and friends.

See pages for specific Clans for the Hope families. which include the Armstrongs, Hopes and O'Briens. While the Edgars are not a Clan per se, there is a group called The Family of Edgars and they too have their own tartan, which is also included for your information.
