Edna May Hope

1912-1988

Edna May Hope was born 17 November 1912 at Casterton to Richmond Armstrong Hope and Edith May Badams, just 3 weeks before her mother's death.

In January 1946, she married Alfred George John Robert Barron, (1912-2012). At the time of Edna's birth and Edith's death, Richmond was stationed at Carlton, a Melbourne suburb, but Edna and her mother remained at Casterton where they were looked after by other family members.

"Mrs Edna Barron, nee Hope, a former Casterton resident, passed away peacefully at her home on February 5, aged 74 (1988).

Born and educated in Casterton, Mrs Barron was organist at Scots Church and when the service was held at Chetwynd, would travel to play the organ.

Her sporting interests were mainly confined to tennis and she regularly competed with groups at Scots Church.

Mrs Barron, with her husband Alfred John and family left Casterton in 1965 to make their home in Geelong.

Mrs Barron regularly visited Casterton to holiday with relatives and friends.

A keen card player, Mrs Barron enjoyed meeting her Casterton friends at organised card afternoons.

The service was held at Uniting Church, East Geelong.

The combined pensioners formed a guard of honour.

Mrs Barron was devoted to her family and is survived by her husband Alfred John, and sons John and Alan."
